RE: The tariff classification of an adjustable lockout hasp from China.

Dear Ms. Rees:

In your letter dated July 7, 2010 you requested a tariff classification ruling. A representative sample was submitted with your request and will be returned to you.

The product to be imported is advertised as an adjustable lockout hasp, model number S806. This item consists of 6 ft. of plastic sheathed 4 mm multi-stranded steel cable which runs through a hard plastic hasp. This locking device can be used for multiple circuit breaker panels and side-by-side gate valve lockouts and can accommodate up to four padlocks. The padlocks are not included.



The applicable subheading for the adjustable lockout hasp will be 7312.10.7000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated, stranded wire, ropes and cables, ropes, cables and cordage other than stranded wire, other, fitted with fittings or made up into articles. The rate of duty will be free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
